HOW TO REPLACE THE MAIN WHEEL OF A HAND PALLET TRUCK

📌 Tools Needed:

  • Needle-nose pliers or flat screwdriver

  • Rubber hammer (if needed)

  • Wheel locking pin (if replacing with a new one)

  • Lubricating oil (if the bearing is dry)

  • New wheel of the correct size

Steps:

Step 1: Move the pallet truck to a convenient and safe position

  • Place the truck on a flat surface and block the front wheels to prevent rolling.

  • Use a jack or wooden block to lift the truck so the main wheel does not touch the ground.

Step 2: Remove the wheel locking pin (or axle stopper)

  • Use needle-nose pliers or a flat screwdriver to remove the retaining pin.

  • Some models use E-rings or cotter pins—remove them carefully to avoid losing them.

Step 3: Remove the old wheel from the axle

  • Gently pull out the wheel. If stuck, tap both sides with a rubber hammer to loosen it.

  • Check the bearing, clean it, and apply lubricant if necessary.

Step 4: Install the new wheel

  • Insert the new wheel of the correct size onto the axle.

  • Ensure the wheel rotates smoothly and doesn’t stick.

Step 5: Reinstall the wheel locking pin

  • Insert the locking pin back to its original position to prevent the wheel from falling off during use.

Step 6: Final Check

  • Spin the wheel to ensure there’s no rubbing.

  • Lower the truck and test its movement to ensure smooth operation.

📖 Notes:

  • Verify the correct wheel code (commonly sizes like D180x50, D200x50…).

  • If the wheel is unevenly worn, replace both wheels to maintain balance.

  • When replacing the wheel, check the bearing inside the wheel as well.
